first use rufus to format the usb key.  choose the grub4dos option.  When prompted to download the gldr file, proceed with the download

next mount the hiren 9.8 iso file and copy the HBCD folder

next create a file in the root of the usb key named menu.lst

edit with notepad and paste in the following:

Save the file.

ejext the usb key safely and plug it into the target machine.  The usb key should boot to a menu.
