Situation
Windows 7 clients cannot connect to OES2 SP2 novell-cifs
This issue is related to the NTLM version:
- Pre-Windows XP SP2 Microsoft operating systems used NTLM version 1.
- Windows XP SP2, Vista, and Windows 7 clients default to using NTLM version 2.
Before SP3, OES2's novell-cifs did not support NTLM version 2.
Resolution
If the server being used is OES2, OES2sp1, or OES2sp2 you must verify the Windows workstation's LAN Manager authentication level's by going to
- Start
- -> Administrative Tools
- -> Local Security Policy
- -> Security Settings
- -> Local Policies
- -> Security Options
- -> Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level
If this has a value of "Send NTLMv2 response only"
you should change this to "Send LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
you should change this to "Send LM and NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
No reboot necessary.
If you are running OES2sp3 or later, then no changes are necessary.
